Hi all! Welcome to my world of blogging! Over the next few weeks, let me take you on a journey of writing and expression as I explore the world of media issues. Feel free to leave your comments (constructive ones please!) on the tagboard and engage in the discussions that I bring forth every week.

The purpose of this weblog is to create a medium for discussions on media-related issues that are taking the world by storm today. The sources of my discussions would be from the local newspapers, television reports or online news websites. If you have any issues that are appropriate for such discussions, do let me know so that I can write an entry about it!

Therefore it is only fitting that the first issue I will discuss is regarding blogs! Yes, the phenomenal trend that is expecting to rise in the coming generations. Blogs started way back in 2002 as an online diary for bloggers to post regularly about daily happenings in their lives. However, that has evolved into a different kind of discourse over the years.

As more bloggers jumped on the bandwagon, we see a proliferation of blogging hosts like livejournal and xanga entering the fray as alternative medium to the ever popular blogger.com. Consequently, celebrity blogs surfaced with much fanfare, most notably Singaporean bloggers like Xiaxue and Dawn Yeo. Then, it seems like blogging became the ‘in’ thing where everyone just needed to have a blog!

Over the years, we see a shift in the blogging world. Blogs continue to serve the purpose of an online journal, but increasingly, blogs have become an avenue for enterprising entrepreneurs to sell items online as a part-time job. This new wave has starting taking flight only recently and industry leaders are full of praise for such innovation and creativity.

However, blogs have had its fair share of controversy as well. The line has to be drawn over what are certain sensitive issues which should not be blogged about as bloggers face intense scrutiny over fears of posting offending blog entries. Even big companies are ensuring stricter guidelines are in place to prevent any defamation on the part of employees to rant about their employers.
Blogs have certainly evolved to be a new form of media publishing and over the next few weeks, we shall attempt to look more into the wonderful world of blogging!
